A Disc Jockey can be defined as a musician who integrates different music tracks in a unique way so that a pattern emerges and this is accomplished by fading out or mixing two soundtracks. in the earlier times Gramaphone records were used followed by Compact Discs. At present DJ music refers to all forms of music regardless of the source.
There are different types of DJ's which include Radio DJ's who play music on radio channels. The wide introduction of FM channels has led to a boom in Radio stations and an increase in demand for Radio Jockeys. FM channels are much clearer and distortion free and there has been a renewal in interest for Radios. Club DJ's perform in clubs and bars, discotheques, or in stadiums.
Hip Hop Dj's use different turn tables to play different tracks simultaneously or alternatively. Turn table scratching may also be done to create percussion and strange sounds. A Reggae DJ may perform vocally or chat or add amusing anecdotes in between tracks to keep the audience enthralled. Mobile DJ's can be hired to accompany Picnics or outings.
· DJ equipment may consist of:
· Sound recordings in the form of vinyl records, Compact Discs, media files, etc.
· Two devices to play sound recordings, to and fro to imitate a continuous playback of music
· Multiple Sequencer to mix MIDI tracks and Digital Audio
· Amplifiers or a radio broadcasting system;
· An electronic DJ mixer equipped with a crossfader .
· Headphones
· Optionally, a microphone to address the audience
